For many of us, cleaning the house is a tedious task and a painful punishment. We often make the decision to clean our house only after our house looks like a battlefield. But in reality, cleaning the house can be done easily and quickly, if you know a few basic tricks. Here are some tips for deep cleaning of your home.

The basics

To dust the house, take a piece of cloth and pass it over all surfaces (from furniture, shelves, decorations, frames and paintings). You can even get the special dust cloths with static electricity that you will find in supermarkets to make dusting even easier.

For the floor, carpets and rugs, the must is the vacuum cleaner, as you probably know. Pay attention to the areas that usually pick up the most dirt such as corners, corners behind doors, floor under hangers and monks, floor under sofas and beds, floor under radiators, skirting boards and places where many cables are collected.

If the floor of the house is made of tile or marble, it is good to mop it once in a while to clean any stains from shoes, food and liquids. If it is wooden, use the special liquid cleaner for wooden floors that you will find in supermarkets.

Finally, linen (sheets, towels, pillowcases), it is good to change them once a week and wash them. Hand towels can be changed more often – every three days – due to use.

Βathroom cleaning

Use a spray bath cleaner and spray the basin, bathtub and sink. Next, wipe the spots with a betex. If the bottom of the basin is muddy, add a little bleach and rub the spot well with the brush, to completely remove the mud. Then pull out the cistern.

If you do not want to use bleach, you can clean the bathroom basin with baking soda and vinegar – pour soda, spray it with vinegar and rub well with the brush. You can do the same with the bathtub, only here you will need a hard sponge with which, after pouring soda, you will rub well the “difficult” points and especially the slime that collects around the siphon valve.

One point that needs special attention in the bathroom basin is the one that is “hidden” through the rim of the basin (where the cleaning-aromatic usually enters), and which catches odor quite easily. For this point there are special “duck” type cleaners, which due to their shape allow you to clean the specific area. Allow the thick liquid to act for a few minutes and then pull out the cistern. If the “phone” of the shower has caught salts, leave it overnight in a basin of water and vinegar solution. The next day it will shine. Alternatively, you can use a special salt cleaner. For bathroom tiles, use half a teaspoon of vinegar in three liters of water and mop or scrub them if necessary with a hard sponge. Before mopping, vacuum the tiles to remove any hairs or fluff.

Finally, for shower curtains that collect salts, the easiest solution, if they are made of fabric, is to put them in the washing machine in a short program for colored ones. If they are plastic, you should rub them with a sponge that you will have “watered” with soda and vinegar. If you still have a shower with a door you will need a little more work, with a sponge and liquid detergent for the salts in the joints. If the plastic curtains are moldy, spray with Bleach, leave it on and rinse in the shower.

Back to the kitchen

On kitchen surfaces where food is in contact, it is advisable to avoid cleaners with strong disinfectant action, unless we choose a cleaner specifically for this purpose.

So, if you want to clean benches and tables you can spray them with a solution of water and soda or lemon and then wipe them with kitchen paper. In the same way once a week you can clean the surfaces of cabinets and drawers. Once a week you should clean with an antimicrobial cleaner (containing bleach) and the handles of cabinets, drawers, refrigerator, electric stove and dishwasher.

For the inside of the oven, mix three parts vinegar and one part soda, remove the grills from the oven and pour the mixture into the bottom of the oven. After the foam “settles”, rub the bottom very well with a sponge and then the walls. Add vinegar and baking soda if needed to cover all surfaces. For difficult stains, use a wire, while if some stains persist, leave the mixture for ten minutes and then continue rubbing. After cleaning, wipe the oven surfaces with a damp vetex. Of course, in order not to have to sit for hours rubbing, it will “loosen” your hands to clean it after each use.

For the sink and the faucet, use the same liquid detergent that you will use in the bathroom. Emphasize the area behind the sink, where we usually touch the sponge and detergent, because it accumulates a lot of stench. There you will need to rub it enough with a sponge. In the case of the microwave oven you can place a cup with a little water and a lot of vinegar and turn on the oven until the liquid boils. Then dampen a cloth with hot vinegar and wipe the inside of the oven. Wash the fridge with warm soapy water, wipe it and then rub the inside with a sponge dampened with baking soda to dispel odors.
